“Who Built the Moon” by Christopher Knight and Alan Butler is one of the main sources for today’s episode. It’s a really intriguing book that I recommend highly! As you can tell by the title, it explores the idea that the moon was an artificial creation. If you find that idea fantastic, it’s still worth a read for all the crazy facts about the moon inside the book.
The book is a natural follow up to their first book “Civilization One” which explores the worlds various measurement systems and finds evidence that our various measurement systems are related and point to an ancient source civilization. It’s a great read!
As we were discussing solar eclipses and how crazy they are, I mentioned a youtube video by Smarter Everyday where Destin (the host) films the 2017 solar eclipse from the exact spot that would allow him to photograph the International Space Station transiting across the eclipse. It’s an amazing video!
We go on to talk about the moon being hollow or at least spongy and we discuss how it rings “like a bell” when it is struck. I found this article in Popular Science talking about the phenomena from a more mainstream scientific perspective but I thought it was a good read.
